York's dark fibre ring shortlisted as Public Sector Network Project of the Year

We are very pleased to announce that CityFibre's dark fibre ring for the City of York has been shortlisted for the Network Project of the Year - Public Sector, in the 2012 Network Computing Awards. The metro ring built by CityFibre and lit by our project partner Pinacl is now 103km in length and has reached over 110 sites including council offices, data centres, schools and hospitals. With CCTV, UTMC (Urban Traffic Management and Control) and even free public WiFi projects all underway, York's dark fibre footprint is making the vision of the 'Council of the Future' a reality. We believe that this represents a template for the type of city-wide network so badly needed by the UK's cities to help them overcome their challenges and thrive in a digital service economy. By facilitating the council's channel-shift towards 'digital by default' and by paving the way for true Next Generation Access through fibre to the premises, empowering a city's businesses and residents, CityFibre's unique approach to future proofed and transformational connectivity is already bearing fruit in the City of York.
