In a forward-thinking industry that’s doing such great work to build a brighter and more prosperous future for the country, it’s ironic that the UK’s connectivity sector still has so much to do in order to shake it’s perception as a career that’s only open to white men.
In a forward-thinking industry that’s doing such great work to build a brighter and more prosperous future for the country, it’s ironic that the UK’s connectivity sector still has so much to do in order to shake its perception as a career that’s only open to white men.
And it’s important that it does shake this perception, because if we’re going to achieve a digital Britain that fully meets the needs of our citizens and businesses the sector will need to engage with the vast pool of talent that exists in our increasingly diverse society.
Entanet aims to lead the way in this mission and on Friday 23rd May, we hosted a ‘World Culture Day’ celebrating and raising awareness about cultural diversity. Held as part of a week of awareness to mark ‘World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development’ the event was an opportunity to deepen our understanding of the value of cultural diversity and to learn to live together better.
During the event employees across the business brought in culinary delights and dressed in clothing associated with a country of their choice. The selected countries included the USA, India, Nepal, Ireland, France and England - reflecting the diverse cultural backgrounds within our own workforce. The food was then laid on for staff in an international-styled buffet, where we asked for a donation from those who wished to participate to raise money for Merulae, a Telford organisation that supports people’s mental health and wellbeing.
Merulae recently ran some mental health awareness sessions with us at our Partnership House office in Telford as supporting mental health wellbeing and awareness across the business is another key aim of our CSR activity in 2019.
This is the second year Entanet has run a ‘World Culture Day’ because we believe that celebrating and promoting diversity in the workplace leads to greater productivity, brings in different talents, and encourages everyone to work towards common goals. Cultural diversity also supports our ambitions to remain an employer of choice.
Stats show that 57% of people think their company should be doing more to increase diversity among its workforce. This emphasises the work that needs to be done to make workplaces more diverse and understanding environments.
