Why hotels need to gig up! #
Most people visiting a hotel these days regard internet access as essential.
They need to go online to check emails, the weather and news and to access information. A 2014 hotels.com survey showed that guests overwhelmingly choose WiFi over any other in-room amenity and so hotels that genuinely want to satisfy their customers need to give them free, unlimited and reliable internet.
In 2014, Middletons Hotel Owner and Manager, Henny Clarke made the decision to upgrade their broadband to a 1 gigabit (1000Mbps) pure fibre connection over our sister network, the York CORE through York Data Services.
“We used to offer free WiFi in our lounge, but people didn’t always want to sit in the lounge to access the internet. Worse, as more people tried to use their devices, connections got slower and less reliable.”
Overnight the connection to the York CORE revolutionized connectivity throughout the hotel and the internet connection went from being a daily source of complaint to the most highly praised aspect of Middletons’ service. It has resulted in:
- A 25% increase in business travellers because they know they can count on fast and reliable connectivity
- A new revenue stream, as Middletons can host corporate events that need a secure private network
- Happier and increasing numbers of guests, who often bring at least two mobile devices for their stay
- Better reviews from travel websites
