Response to Minister Matt Hancock’s maiden speech at Broadband World Forum

20 October 2016

“Matt Hancock has grasped that reform of BT Openreach is only part of the solution to the UK’s broadband problem and that consumers, businesses and public services will only get the ultra-fast fibre connections they need through competition between different broadband networks. CityFibre is already competing with BT Openreach in 40 cities across the UK and we will expand even further in the coming year.” “As the minister and Ofcom have recognised, the future is fibre. We look forward to working with them to in establishing the new industrial strategy, which we hope will provide practical support for fibre rollout across the country. For CityFibre, we want to see an ambitious government target of 80% fibre coverage in the UK by 2026.” Mark Collins, Director of Strategy and Public Affairs
