Replacing its primary link with Gigabit-capable pure fibre delivers significant efficiency benefits for managed IT services provider in Bournemouth

Fully managed IT and telecoms services provider, Modrus, is gaining a flexible, cost effective and future-proofed network connection with a new fibre infrastructure from CityFibre, one of the UK’s leading independent fibre infrastructure providers. Connecting its head-office and main operating centre in Bournemouth with its three datacentres in London, the new link replaces Modrus’ existing connection to become its new primary link, enabling the company to improve its customer service, with faster server set-ups.

“We currently have 700 customer servers in our datacentres, and our Bournemouth-based, 40-strong technical teams are building new server set-ups at a rate of 50 to 100 per month. The new CityFibre high-capacity, high-speed fibre link has important business benefits for us because of its impact on the rate at which the team can work. No longer having to deal with slower (100Mb) data transmission will hugely increase the speed and efficiency of the teams,” says Edward Armitage, Director at Modrus.

Modrus chose the CityFibre fibre infrastructure above other suppliers because of the flexibility it offers and its competitive pricing. “With the CityFibre solution, we can define the speed of the line ourselves by the equipment we choose to put on each end,” explains Edward Armitage. “This gives us significant flexibility going forward and, along with the great price and excellent installation and hook-up service provided by CityFibre, was a major reason for choosing its solution.”

A further business benefit to Modrus is the utilisation of the CityFibre infrastructure to support its back-up and disaster-recovery operations. With this in place, Modrus now keeps its pre-existing BT and Virgin circuits for contingencies.

Rob Hamlin, Director of Business Development at CityFibre commented: “Modrus develops and provides innovative customer solutions and is constantly aware of the need for new ideas and services. Its new CityFibre infrastructure will provide a long-term, high-capacity primary link that delivers the speed and flexibility it requires for many years to come, as its business grows.

“CityFibre has invested heavily in fibre infrastructure throughout Bournemouth, and we are delighted to see more and more businesses in Bournemouth benefitting from our growing fibre network.”

Modrus takes responsibility for supplying and supporting the business technology companies need as a simple, agile, monthly service leaving them free to focus on what matters most - making their businesses successful. In practice this means whether cloud or office-based, Modrus design, buy, install and support as much of a company’s connection, network, hardware, software and phones as they would like them to, enabling Modrus to take responsibility for ensuring users can reliably access all the technology they need to work productively and consistently wherever they are. Modrus has many long-term customer relationships and is proud that a large amount of its new business comes from word-of-mouth recommendation.
