Full-fibre boost for Cynthia Spencer Hospice from dbfb

Connecting with friends and family around the world is now even easier for patients at Northamptonshire’s Cynthia Spencer Hospice thanks to support from local business, dbfb. The Northampton based broadband specialist is supporting the hospice by providing the building with a free connection to CityFibre’s full-fibre digital infrastructure. The technology means patients will be able to connect with loved ones on the other side of the world via video messaging apps such as Skype or FaceTime without buffering or connectivity issues getting in the way. They will also be able to download and stream entertainment almost instantly. Since launching the ultrafast CityFibre broadband services in Northamptonshire, dbfb have supported Cynthia Spencer Hospice and initially decided to donate £50 to the charity for each of the first 50 live connections in the town. Cynthia Spencer is a charity that dbfb hold close to their hearts after co-owner of the company Bill Oliver sadly passed away in the hospice in 2016. Chairman, Brian Kingston recalls: "The support and care given to my lifelong friend and co-founder of dbfb, Bill, was absolutely incredible." The idea to provide a free gigabit line to the hospice is to offer patients the opportunity to stay in touch with their loved ones, whether they have family on the other side of the world or would just like to see a familiar face in a time of need. Cynthia Spencer Hospice has also updated patient areas with Smart TV’s, this connectivity will now allow all patients to use this technology to be able to watch their favourite TV programmes and movies or search the internet with ease. Cynthia Spencer Hospice fundraising manager, John Helm said: “Dbfb are long-term supporters of the hospice and their commitment to a significant donation for every new gigabit connection is already paying dividends for the hospice. As a local charity, the support of local companies such as dbfb is vital in helping us provide our specialised care to the people of Northamptonshire.” A spokesperson for dbfb, Chloe McGowan, visited the hospice earlier this month to experience how the hospice runs day to day. Chloe said: “I was truly touched by the hard work and passion that every Cynthia Spencer team member puts into their role, with the patients at the heart of everything. Seeing people with a smile on their face at such a difficult time is really uplifting and reminds me why it is so important to support Cynthia Spencer Hospice and similar charities.”
