Homes and businesses in Dundee are now able to future-proof their homes and access faster and more reliable broadband thanks to a new digital network rollout by CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent full fibre platform.
CityFibre started building the £40m network in 2020, making Dundee one of a growing number of locations in the UK to benefit from a full fibre upgrade. With much of the city now covered by full fibre, CityFibre’s rollout is moving into the Invergowrie and Ninewells Hospital areas in addition to Marketgait and around the Overgate Shopping Centre in the city centre. Work is also underway between East Marketgait and Hilltown, plus the Waterfront by South Victoria Dock Road.
The full rollout is expected to reach completion in 2024, giving local homes and businesses the chance to upgrade to full fibre and future-proof their connectivity for decades to come.
Paul Wakefield, CityFibre’s Senior Partnership Manager for Dundee, said: “As we enter our third year of upgrading Dundee’s digital infrastructure, the positive impact of the full fibre rollout is truly being felt. Homes and businesses across the city are now able to access lightning-fast and super reliable broadband, unlocking a host of productivity, innovation and new investment benefits that will continue to unfold for many years to come.
“We would like to thank the local community for their patience and support to date. We will continue working closely with our trusted build partner and Dundee City Council to limit disturbance as the rollout progresses and we look forward to advancing the city’s digital network even further.”
Full fibre networks use 100% fibre optics to carry data at light speed all the way from the home to the point of connection. This gives users speeds of up to 1,000 Mbps for upload and download, near limitless bandwidth and reliable connectivity.
Locally, the rollout is being completed by CityFibre’s build partner, GCU UK Limited. The team is working closely with Dundee City Council to ensure any disruption is managed safely and efficiently.
In Dundee, customers can sign up to UK launch partner, Vodafone, on selected Vodafone Pro Broadband plans, as well as TalkTalk, Giganet, Fibrecast, Zen, Brillband and EdenOak, with other providers expected to join the network soon.
