CityFibre to showcase the future of public WiFi at the Bournemouth Air Festival

30 August 2013

Bournemouth continues to benefit from the pure fibre network throughout the town

CityFibre, a leading UK independent fibre infrastructure provider is delighted to announce that as part of its continued support for its ‘Gigabit Cities’ and their local communities, it is showcasing free ultrafast WiFi throughout the Bournemouth Air Festival 2013 (29th August – 1st September) with its internet service provider, Gigler.

“There is a huge improvement when WiFi is delivered over pure fibre networks as opposed to ADSL. Most typical free public WiFi services provide pitifully slow speeds of around 2Mbps and drop further still when more people connect at the same time. Using a state-of-the-art, 100% pure fibre network however, enables next-generation public WiFi services to deliver as much bandwidth as a mobile device can handle - typically up to 50Mbps! This faster service is available to significantly more people, without a drop in service, meaning more people are able to enjoy the best WiFi experience possible.

“Yet again, this demonstrates the huge opportunities for towns and cities once the pure fibre infrastructure is in place. It becomes feasible to deliver a market-leading free WiFi service in a civic centre that transforms the way visitors and locals can access and enjoy digital services when out and about. This is just one of many benefits of pure fibre for residents and businesses and we are delighted to have this opportunity to demonstrate it at the Bournemouth Air Show. We plan to showcase more pure fibre WiFi projects around the UK in the near future,” says Greg Mesch, Chief Executive Officer at CityFibre.

The free fibre-powered WiFi service will be available during show hours in the Bournemouth Pier Approach area where Gigler will have a stand enabling visitors to experience Gigabit connectivity from the UK’s fastest internet service. CityFibre is expecting thousands of people to use the service throughout the four day event and will be publishing statistics from the usage post the festival.
