CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent Full Fibre platform, has received a Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Bronze Health and Safety Award for working hard to ensure its staff and build partners operate in a safe environment.

RoSPA Awards are recognised as being world-leaders in health and safety practice with 2,000 entrants every year vying to achieve the highest possible accolade in what is the UK’s longest-running H&S industry awards.

CityFibre earned the award for displaying an outstanding commitment health and safety (H&S) over the past twelve months. In 2020, CityFibre’s H&S management system was certified to the ISO 45001 international standard and several other measures aimed at mitigating occupational H&S risks were introduced across the company and with build partners.

The RoSPA award comes as CityFibre is rapidly scaling its nationwide build programme which is expected to be substantially completed by 2025. The Full Fibre network will address approximately a third of the UK market including at least 8 million homes, 800,000 businesses, 400,000 public sector sites and 250,000 5G access points.

Julia Small, RoSPA’s achievements director, said: “The RoSPA Awards scheme is the longest-running of its kind in the UK, but it receives entries from organisations across the globe, making it one of the most sought-after achievement awards for health and safety worldwide.

“RoSPA is very proud of the achievements of its entrants, and with this award we recognise the best of the best, those organisations that have gone the extra mile, raising the bar for the delivery of safety in the workplace. Employees, wherever they may be should be able to go to work safe in the knowledge that they will return home unharmed and healthy at the end of every day.

“Our RoSPA Award winners are central to achieving this goal. By entering they are driving up standards and setting new safety benchmarks for organisations across the world. Currently, around 7 million people are directly impacted by the RoSPA Awards, but the scheme’s global influence is even wider – with nearly 2000 organisations from 46 countries represented this year. I would also particularly want to thank our main sponsor NEBOSH, the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health – for their continued support for the 16th consecutive year.”

Richard Thorpe, Chief Delivery Officer at CityFibre, added: “We’re really proud to have been recognised this year by RoSPA for the hard work the team has put in ensuring the safety of everyone working for CityFibre in both our offices and out in the field. It comes at a particularly critical time for us as we hit the accelerator on our build programme and scale across the country.

“What is important now is that we continue to prioritise health and safety to ensure the wellbeing of everyone involved in building this key piece of national infrastructure. Over the next year we will redouble our efforts in that respect and aim to raise standards even further.”
