With construction of Horsham’s full fibre network well underway, CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent full fibre platform, recently welcomed Jeremy Quin MP for a tour of the works in Forest ward, giving him a closer look at the £12m town wide project.

During the visit, representatives from CityFibre and build partner Lanes-i introduced Mr. Quin to full fibre digital infrastructure, the best network technology currently available, and provided demonstrations of the typical build process, including excavation and reinstatement.

Unlike the majority of the digital infrastructure accessible to households today, full fibre networks use 100% full fibre to carry data at high speed all the way from the home to the point of connection. This gives users consistently faster speeds for upload and download (up to 1,000 Mbps), near limitless bandwidth and connectivity users can depend on.

A full fibre connection also goes far beyond simply enabling access to the latest entertainment at lightning speed. As an essential digital utility, full fibre boosts households and businesses alike, with experts saying it will drive a range of economic benefits, such as making us more productive and innovative.

A spokesperson for CityFibre said: “It was my pleasure to show Mr. Quin our works in Horsham. Our build team is bringing full fibre to the town, which will soon allow residents and local businesses to access the best available digital connectivity and unlock huge economic opportunities for the town.

“According to recent research from the consultancy Hatch, in Horsham alone, our full fibre network is expected to contribute £58 million in productivity and innovation, as well as deliver a £75 million increase in house value.”

Commenting on the progress of CityFibre’s £12m project, Jeremy Quin MP for Horsham said: “I thoroughly enjoyed visiting the CityFibre works and learning about the numerous economic benefits of full fibre. As we move into the digital age, it’s of vital importance that Horsham has the digital infrastructure it needs to thrive, and I’m delighted to hear that CityFibre's investment will underpin the town’s growth in the years to come.”

Construction is being delivered by Lanes-i on behalf of CityFibre. The team is using a range of construction methods while working in close partnership with Horsham District Council and local communities to deliver a fast rollout while managing potential disruption.

As the network is completed in each neighbourhood, CityFibre will designate the homes ‘ready for service’, which means residents can choose to connect to full fibre-enabled broadband services when they go live in their area.

Across the UK, CityFibre is working with launch partner Vodafone to deliver next generation broadband services, as well as TalkTalk, Giganet, Zen and IDNet, with others expected to join the network soon.
