With construction of Rochford and Great Wakering’s full fibre network well underway, CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent full fibre platform, recently welcomed Cllr Ian Ward of Rochford District Council for a tour of the works in Central Avenue, giving him a closer look at the £25m project.

During the visit, representatives from CityFibre and Telelink UK introduced Cllr Ward to full fibre digital infrastructure, the best network technology currently available, and provided demonstrations of the typical build process, including excavation and reinstatement.

Full fibre networks use 100% fibre optics to carry data at high speed all the way from the home to the point of connection. This gives users consistently faster speeds for upload and download (up to 1,000 Mbps), near limitless bandwidth and connectivity users can depend on.

A full fibre connection also goes far beyond simply enabling access to the latest entertainment at lightning speed. As an essential digital utility, full fibre boosts households and businesses alike, with experts saying it will drive a range of economic benefits, such as making us more productive and innovative.

Jean Gowin, Area Manager at CityFibre, said: “It was a pleasure to show Cllr Ward our ongoing works to upgrade local digital infrastructure to full fibre. Our network will bring lightning fast and reliable digital connectivity to the area and unlock enormous economic opportunities for the community – it’s a truly exciting time for Rochford and Great Wakering.”

Commenting on the progress of CityFibre’s £25m project, Cllr Ian Ward, Portfolio Holder for Strategic Planning and Assets for Rochford District Council, added: “Fast and reliable digital connectivity is more important than ever before, so it was great to see CityFibre’s full fibre rollout in Rochford up close. This new digital infrastructure will make a big difference to local people and businesses, and I look forward to watching the project progress.”

Construction is being delivered by Telelink UK on behalf of CityFibre. The team is using a range of construction methods while working in close partnership with Rochford District Council and local communities to deliver a fast rollout while managing potential disruption.

As the network is completed in each neighbourhood, CityFibre will designate the homes ‘ready for service’, which means residents can choose to connect to full fibre-enabled broadband services when they go live in their area.

Across the UK, CityFibre is working with launch partner Vodafone to deliver next generation broadband services, as well as TalkTalk, Giganet, Zen and IDNet, with others expected to join the network soon.
