CityFibre, the UK’s third national digital infrastructure platform, is helping residents at Bolton’s Meadowbank House Care Home combat loneliness and stay connected with loved ones.

With care home providers and professionals across the UK rallying to keep spirits up during this difficult time, CityFibre gifted Samsung tablets to residents, helping them connect virtually with family and friends. Keeping conversations going digitally is known to provide mental stimulation and much needed companionship during the on-going pandemic.

Meadowbank House Care Home, based in Great Lever, is in the build area for CityFibre’s state-of-the-art full fibre roll-out, meaning its residents will be able to access the fastest, most reliable connectivity available in due course. Construction of the network formally began in July 2020 and upon completion, it will be in reach of nearly every home and business in the town.

Stephen Moore, City Manager at CityFibre, said: “With lockdown having separated many of us from our families, friends and colleagues, the ability to at least stay connected virtually has proven key. It is more important than ever to ensure that this digital shift is as inclusive as possible, and this includes the nation’s care home residents and staff.

“Ultimately, we’re hopeful that the network we’re building in Bolton, as well as those across the UK, will enable quality of life improvements for care homes. With the right connectivity and the ongoing efforts to increase digital access across all age groups, we can help ease loneliness, revolutionise care home management and facilities and ensure no one gets left behind.”

Audrey Kyungu, Wellbeing Coordinator at Meadowbank House Care Home, added: “These tablets have been fantastic, helping residents stay connected with their families. We are also able to do more than one video call at the same time due to having multiple tablets.”
