Campaign launched to ‘Gig Up’ Lynch Wood

Campaign launched to ‘Gig Up’ Lynch Wood

2 October 2014

Companies based in Lynch Wood in Peterborough are being encouraged to back a campaign to make sure the city’s new gigabit speed internet network reaches businesses in the area. CityFibre, the company behind the Peterborough CORE ultrafast internet network, is asking Lynch Wood businesses to register their interest in gigabit speed connectivity to map demand in the business parks. CityFibre has divided Lynch Wood into three areas (North, South and West) and assigned registration targets for each. If targets in each area are met, CityFibre has committed to start the detailed planning process required to get the area connected. Andy Starnes, city development manager from CityFibre, said: “We always said we’d take a demand-led approach to installing this network and that’s what this campaign is about; letting local businesses influence the route. As the initial CORE network build doesn’t currently reach Lynch Wood, we need to see sufficient demand in the area to justify the construction costs. To do that we need help from the local businesses. “If we receive sufficient levels of interest, we can begin planning to extend the build of the network into Lynch Wood to service the businesses based there. A registration of interest is no obligation to take service, but simply allows us to map demand. We’re working to a fast construction schedule, so I’d urge businesses who haven’t yet registered to do so now.” The Peterborough CORE will supercharge businesses with internet speeds of 1000Mbps. Construction started in April this year and the network build is already one third complete, with city centre services now live.
