Passive Capacity Lead

Job Description

This role requires you to be flexible with travelling around the UK as regular site visits are required.

As the UK’s largest fibre-only network, and its only proven wholesale challenger, we’re busy setting new standards for what digital infrastructure can and should be.

Designed from scratch for the internet, our network is greener, more reliable and ready for the future. The products we provide over it not only lead the market on speed, value and service, they help businesses to innovate, provide entire communities with a better foundation for their digital lives and support economic growth, locally and nationally.

What does that mean for you? The opportunity to make internet connections (and daily life) a whole lot better, for a lot of people!

Joining us as a Passive Capacity Lead

The Passive Capacity Lead ensures optimal performance and scalability of the fibre network by strategically managing and upgrading passive network capacity.

You’ll receive a competitive salary, a car allowance, a performance related bonus, and a range of benefits to support you across your financial, physical and mental wellbeing.

This is some of what you can expect to be doing:

  • Develop and manage the passive network capacity strategy, aligning with business growth forecasts and performance targets
  • Analyse current network capacity, identify bottlenecks, and forecast future requirements to ensure optimal performance across varying Passive Network architectures
  • Prioritise and sequence capacity upgrade projects based on network analysis, risk assessments, and business priorities
  • Allocate resources effectively for capacity projects, conduct cost-benefit analyses, and lead operational improvements

What you’ll bring to the role

This role will lead the strategy for capacity management across the fibre exchange, fibre optic ring closures, and customer connectivity (consumer, business, and MDUs), ensuring network resilience, quality and efficient resource allocation.  You’ll also have:

  • Extensive experience in passive fibre optic networks, including capacity reviews, engineering, and planning
  • In-depth understanding of fibre network architectures, OSP engineering principles and network inventory systems like SmallWorld PNI
  • Strong analytical skills for network capacity data assessment, cost modelling, and financial analysis
  • Proficient in fibre optic testing methodologies like OTDR and IOLM, using tools from vendors such as EXFO and Viavi Solutions
  • Experience using GIS software such as QGIS for network mapping, analysis, and capacity planning
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
