More than 500 households in Newark will now have the opportunity to experience the fastest and most reliable broadband available. CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent full fibre platform, and Newark and Sherwood District Council have signed a wayleave agreement providing permission for the required groundworks and installations to be completed.
CityFibre is investing in Newark to roll out a full fibre network that uses 100% fibre optics to carry data at light speed all the way from the home to the point of connection. This gives users speeds of up to 2.5GB for upload and download, near limitless bandwidth and reliable connectivity.
This next level in connectivity will allow tenants a seamless experience when accessing portals and public service systems, in addition to setting up and managing utilities. With near-unlimited bandwidth, people will also be able to enjoy the latest smart home technology, stream entertainment across multiple devices and work from home more easily.
Bashir Ahmed, CityFibre’s Partnership Manager for Newark, said: “Today, internet access is no longer a luxury – it’s a must have that underpins so many aspects of our home and working lives. It’s vital, therefore, that no one is left behind. This agreement will make a genuine difference to thousands of people living in council housing in Newark, giving them access to transformative technology.”
Councillor Matthew Spoors, Portfolio Holder for Sustainable Economic Development at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “We’re keen to see full fibre connectivity in every home and business in Newark to strengthen and secure the future digital economic development of the area.
“Connectivity has never been so important and as we progress with key projects offering educational opportunities such as the Air and Space Institute and Newark Construction College, we are fast becoming a place where people and businesses can prosper. As the town continues to grow, especially in areas such as the Middlebeck development near the proposed Southern Link Road, it’s vital we future proof Newark now.”
In Newark, customers can connect to the new network and benefit from full fibre-enabled broadband from a choice of providers, including UK launch partner, Vodafone, on selected Vodafone Pro Broadband plans, as well as TalkTalk, Giganet, IDNet and Zen. Other providers are expected to join the network soon.
