Broadband users in parts of Stratton, Pinehurst and Moredon are the first in Swindon to benefit from the fastest and most reliable internet services available in the UK. As CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent full fibre platform, has completed its full fibre rollout in these areas, the first services can now go live on the new network.

Finishing the rollout in these areas marks another milestone in CityFibre’s £40m project which aims to future-proof Swindon by ensuring its network infrastructure is able to support its residents and businesses in an increasingly digital world.

Where CityFibre builds its full fibre networks, ISPs (Internet Service Providers) light them up to deliver some of the fastest and best value broadband packages available. In Swindon, residents can now take advantage of full fibre service through Fibrehop, while other ISPs including TalkTalk and Giganet have announced they will join the network soon.

Once CityFibre has completed the entire build, almost every home and business in Swindon will have access to full fibre broadband.

Speaking of this latest milestone, Neil Madle, CityFibre’s City Manager for Swindon, said: “We are really pleased to be bringing all the benefits of full fibre connectivity to people across Stratton, Pinehurst and Moredon, and welcome Fibrehop as our first ISP in Swindon.

“We would like to thank residents who have been extremely patient with us as we have built our infrastructure and look forward to offering more people in Swindon the opportunity to connect to our network, unlocking unbeatable homeworking, home learning and digital entertainment experiences.”

Full fibre is currently available to around 25 per cent of UK premises, making those living and working in Stratton, Pinehurst and Moredon some of the first in the country to benefit from the best available digital connectivity.

Unlike many of the copper-based ‘fibre broadband’ services available today, full fibre networks use 100% fibre optic cables to carry data at light speed all the way from the home to the point of connection. This gives users consistently faster speeds for upload and download (up to 1,000 Mbps), near limitless bandwidth so everyone at home can work, study, stream or game simultaneously, as well as connectivity users can depend on.

A full fibre connection also goes far beyond simply enabling accessing to the latest entertainment at lightning speed. As an essential digital utility, full fibre boosts households and businesses alike, with experts saying it will drive a range of economic benefits, such as making us more productive and innovative.
