CityFibre has now laid 1,672km of full fibre internet beneath the streets of Glasgow as part of its plan to future-proof the city’s digital connectivity.
This progress from the UK’s largest independent full fibre platform now means there is enough full fibre connecting the city’s homes to stretch the length of the River Clyde ten times.
Glasgow is one of a growing number of locations in the UK to benefit from CityFibre’s nationwide full fibre rollout, which is deploying the best available digital infrastructure across the UK.
Paul Wakefield, CityFibre’s Partnership Manager for Glasgow, said: “We are at an exciting stage in our Glasgow build, having laid a huge 1,672km of full fibre infrastructure below the streets of Scotland’s biggest city representing a significant landmark in our rollout.
“With our network now live across many areas of the city, residents and businesses can take advantage of all full fibre connectivity has to offer. I’d encourage everyone seeking a faster and more reliable broadband service to check their postcode on our website to find which internet service providers are available in their area.”
Full fibre networks use 100% fibre optics to carry data at light speed all the way from the home to the point of connection. This gives users speeds of up to 2.5 Gbps for upload and download, near limitless bandwidth and reliable connectivity.
In Glasgow, customers can already connect to the new network and benefit from full fibre-enabled broadband from a choice of providers, including UK launch partner, Vodafone, on selected Vodafone Pro Broadband plans, as well as TalkTalk, Giganet, Brillband, Brawband among many other providers.
People interested in upgrading their home’s digital connection to full fibre can find out more about the build, pre-register their interest and check which ISPs are available in the area here.
With network projects in over 60 cities and construction underway to reach up to 8 million homes
