With construction of Doncaster’s full fibre network well underway, CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent full fibre platform, recently welcomed Nick Fletcher, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Don Valley, for a tour of the forthcoming works in Rossington, giving him an insight into what the £25m city-wide project will entail.
Full fibre networks, unlike the majority of the digital infrastructure accessible to households today, use 100% fibre optic infrastructure to carry data at light speed all the way from the home to the point of connection. This gives users speeds of up to 1,000 Mbps for upload and download, near limitless bandwidth and reliable connectivity.
Construction is being delivered by build partner Heneghans on behalf of CityFibre. The team is using a range of construction methods while working in close partnership with Doncaster Council and local communities to deliver a fast rollout while managing potential disruption.
As the network is completed in each neighbourhood, CityFibre will designate the homes ‘ready for service’, which means residents can choose to connect to full fibre-enabled broadband services when they go live in their area.
Natalie Ward, CityFibre’s Area Manager for Doncaster, said: “Our full fibre rollout in Doncaster has been hugely successful so far and we are immensely proud of the work we are doing here. Many residents in Doncaster have already chosen to access the network, providing them with a range of ISPs delivering the fastest and most reliable broadband services available. The potential benefits of better connectivity are vast, and we're thrilled that Rossington will be the next area to benefit from this work. Having Nick’s support for the future works is fantastic and we’re glad we could show him firsthand, how the build will happen.”
Commenting on CityFibre’s £25m project, Nick Fletcher, Conservative MP for Don Valley, said: “Seeing the progress the team has made to date, as well as their enthusiasm for modernising our city’s infrastructure, is remarkable. This additional investment made by CityFibre is a win for the area and I am looking forward to seeing how the next stages of the rollout develop plus the many benefits that our local residents and businesses are set to receive.”
In Doncaster, customers can sign up to UK launch partner, Vodafone, TalkTalk, Giganet and Zen and many others.
Residents interested in giving their home broadband a boost can find out more about the build and register their interest here.
