CityFibre introduces Karl McCartney MP to full fibre works future-proofing Lincoln’s digital connectivity

12 December 2022

With the construction of Lincoln’s full fibre network now well underway, CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent full fibre platform, recently welcomed Karl McCartney, MP for Lincoln for a tour of the works, giving him a closer look at the £21m project.

During the visit, representatives from CityFibre introduced Mr McCartney to full fibre network technology and provided demonstrations of the typical build process, including excavation and reinstatement.

Full fibre networks, unlike the majority of the digital infrastructure accessible to households today, use 100% fibre optic cables to carry data at light speed all the way from the home to the point of connection. This gives users speeds of up to 1,000 Mbps for upload and download, near limitless bandwidth and reliable connectivity.

Speaking of the tour, Dominika Walker, CityFibre’s Area Manager for Lincoln, said: “The benefits that CityFibre’s digital infrastructure will bring to Lincoln make every new milestone of the construction journey more and more exciting.

“It has been a pleasure to show Mr McCartney our progress so far and it’s great to see such enthusiasm for the work we’re doing to bring full fibre to the people and businesses of the city. Our vision for Lincoln is really starting to take shape, with the first homes already connected, and so much more to come.”

Locally, the rollout is being completed by CityFibre’s build partner, Trust Utility Management. The team is working closely with City of Lincoln Council and Lincolnshire County Council to ensure any disruption is managed safely and efficiently.

Commenting on the progress of CityFibre’s £21m project, Karl McCartney, MP for Lincoln, said: “Digital infrastructure is now so critical to our economic success. It has been really valuable to see first-hand the essential work of CityFibre and Trust Utility Management to deliver better connectivity and ultimately pave the way towards Lincoln becoming a leader in all things digital.”

In Lincoln, services are currently available from Vodafone, on selected Vodafone Pro Broadband plans, as well as IDNet, Giganet, Yayzi, Air Broadband, No One and Octaplus, with other providers expected to join the network soon.
