Work to upgrade Great Yarmouth’s digital foundations with fast, reliable and future-proof full fibre network connectivity is now underway after CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent full fibre platform, started construction works in the Southtown and Cobham area.

CityFibre is investing over £15m in bringing this new technology to homes and businesses in Great Yarmouth, ensuring it’s able to serve residents’ data needs for decades to come.

Locally, the rollout is being completed by Pod-Trak, who will work closely with CityFibre, Norfolk County Council and Great Yarmouth Borough Council to ensure any disruption is managed safely and efficiently. Typically, teams will only remain in each area for a few days at a time, and residents will be contacted ahead of any work starting. The first services will go live for people in the near future to take advantage of as each area is completed.

Speaking of the project, Charles Kitchin, CityFibre’s Area Manager for Great Yarmouth, said: “It’s an exciting time for Great Yarmouth as the installation of our full fibre network gets underway. This upgraded infrastructure will allow homes and businesses across the town to thrive in the digital age by providing access to lightning-fast and reliable internet services.

“It’s important to remember that any short-term disruption will pay off tremendously in the long-term as once the network is built, it will serve the community’s connectivity needs for decades to come.”

Full fibre networks use 100% fibre optics to carry data at light speed all the way from the home to the point of connection. This gives users speeds of up to 1,000 Mbps for upload and download, near limitless bandwidth and reliable connectivity.

A full fibre connection also goes far beyond simply enabling access to the latest entertainment at lightning speed. Full fibre boosts households and businesses, with experts saying it will drive a range of economic benefits, such as making us more productive and innovative.

A spokesperson for Great Yarmouth Borough Council added: “We welcome the news that CityFibre has started work on its digital infrastructure investment in Great Yarmouth. Now more than ever, strong digital connectivity is central to business innovation and productivity, and we are pleased the town will have the ability to make the most of the new economic opportunities on offer through this infrastructure upgrade.”

When the new network goes live in Great Yarmouth, customers will be able to access full fibre enabled services via a choice of providers, including CityFibre’s UK launch partner, Vodafone, on selected Vodafone Pro Broadband plans, TalkTalk, Zen, Giganet and IDNet, with other providers expected to join the network soon.
