Armed Forces

Not every company supports service leavers like we do.

Service Leavers

Transitioning from the military to the civilian world can be challenging in all sorts of ways. That's why we have our CityFibre Armed Forces Network, who support ex-forces and reservists. It provides a forum for this group of colleagues to come together, share experiences, fundraise for charity or simply get to know some like-minded people. We want to help build on the close bond often felt in the forces and give our ex-forces employees a sense of comfort, familiarity, and camaraderie.

Armed Forces Covenant

We’re proud to have signed the Armed Forces Covenant and hold silver level – we’re working to embed this ethos in all of our build partners which will qualify us for gold membership. We will do whatever it takes to ensure those who serve are treated fairly.

"Bringing a new generation of full fibre to the UK is no small task. Infrastructure projects of this scale require a wide range of skills. By signing the Armed Forces Covenant, we are able to tap into a community of people who are highly skilled, and have all the qualities we are looking for to help deliver Britain’s full fibre future."

Military Community

We have a large, supportive military community that focuses on helping and encouraging ex-military personnel as they transition to civilian careers. We know this transition can be difficult. Our mental wellbeing policy ensures that for all members of the Armed Forces community there is support in place.
We have established an Armed Forces Network within the company to support members of staff who may be veterans, armed forces spouses, CFAVs or reservists. This helps promote service with the reserves to ex regulars and also provides valuable mentoring support to all those who may want or need it.

Building a legacy

We are challenging ourselves and our industry to do things differently. To do that, we bring brilliant people together from all kinds of different backgrounds. And we don’t stop at our own front door. We encourage all our contractors and partners to do as we do, to build their own communities. By actively recruiting serving reservists and veterans we gain smart-thinking, decisive individuals dedicated to putting their best foot forward in all they do. We’re building a legacy, and our network of ex-forces employees are helping us do just that.

"I joined CityFibre 6 months ago after an 8-year career in the Royal Signals. The skills which I gained during my career are valued by the company and the training I've received for my role has been extensive. CityFibre invested in my future by providing me with civilian accreditations and ensured my transition into civilian life went smoothly."

Joe Basson

Ex-Royal Signals, now Build Assurance Engineer

“The support I receive as a reservist is invaluable and was one of the key factors which attracted me to CityFibre in the first place. I feel that the skills which I have gained in the Army Reserve are really valued and recognised. The additional 10 days of paid leave means there is no pressure on me to compromise on family time.”

Major Domhnall Dods

32 Signal Regiment, Senior Regulatory Advisor

"To meet my Reservist commitment and maintain a work-life balance, the support I receive is paramount and welcomed. The 10 days annual leave aligned to the commitment is key to me being able to fulfil my duties and helped me in my decision to join CityFibre. It ensures I am still able to spend quality time with my family around work and service."

WO1 Chris Sankey

81 Signal Squadron, 10 Signal Regiment, Head of Area Build

"A career in telecoms is a good idea. A career at CityFibre is a no-brainer. You put in what you get out here. CityFibre has looked after me from a personal and professional point of view. They are committed to making everybody feel welcome and able to do their job, no matter what your background may be."
