Apprentices

Learn on the job

We welcome apprentices in all areas of our business. As you work towards a nationally recognised apprenticeship standard, you’ll be part of a supportive team setting a new standard for the UK’s digital network.

CityFibre Apprenticeships

As an apprentice, you’ll only spend 20% of your time either studying or learning new skills. The rest will be on-the-job work that will give you the experience of working in a fast-paced and ever-evolving environment.

When you start, you’ll be assigned a mentor who will support your progression. They’ll guide you through, answer any questions you have and offer advice for you to reach your full potential. You’ll have a review every six months where you can outline your goals for the next six and your future, whether that be as part of CityFibre or not.

A guide for parents, carers and teachers

As a parent, carer or teacher, you want to make sure your child is making the right decision for their future. Here’s all you need to know about our apprenticeships to settle your mind.

  • An apprenticeship allows an individual to combine employment and education by studying recognised apprenticeship standard in a real job, while getting hands-on experience and earning a salary. In England, there are currently four levels of apprenticeship: intermediate, advanced, higher and degree:

    • Intermediate apprenticeships are level 2 qualifications and are equivalent to GCSE.
    • Advanced apprenticeships are level 3 qualifications and are equivalent to A level passes.
    • Higher apprenticeships lead to qualifications at level 4 and above.
    • A degree apprenticeship involves gaining a university degree while you work (level 6 or above)

We offer all of the above apprenticeship levels at CityFibre, across various areas of our business.

  • To undertake an apprenticeship, you must be 16 or over. Besides that, we look for people who are enthusiastic about learning, driven to succeed, interested in starting their career in a fast-growing industry and want to continue gaining knowledge whilst working. We’re passionate about building a diverse workforce, so we welcome applications from people of all backgrounds.

  • Undertaking an apprenticeship is a great way to gain a formal qualification in a specialist area, learning new skills and knowledge to grow and develop further in their career. We carefully select what apprenticeships we offer meaning they accurately reflect the relevant behaviours and skills required for that position, combined with wider people and business skill development. Apprenticeships now take on a ‘whole person’ approach and we believe this is what sets them apart from the traditional classroom or short course route.

  • CityFibre support individuals to undertake an Apprenticeship. We work with external colleges/training providers in the delivery of Apprenticeships, and provide bespoke support to the individuals, based upon their area of work and the skills that they need to develop. Apprentices at CityFibre can benefit from the following:

    • 20% off the job learning, experience, and events

    • Clear Pay Structure

    • Monthly Catch Ups with the Early Careers Team

    • eLearning Support

    • End Point Assessment Support

  • Off the job training, is time during the Apprenticeship that is allocated to enable the Apprentice to study for their qualification. This time must be spent learning new skills via various opportunities and applying these new skills e.g., shadowing, mentoring sessions, eLearning or completely work related to their Apprenticeships standard.

  • There are different entry level requirements for each of our apprenticeships. These will be outlined on the job advert.

  • Throughout your time as an Apprentice, you will have had the chance to grow and develop not only in your job role, but personally too. A key objective of an Apprenticeship is to support individuals to progress, enabling you to transition into permanent positions within CityFibre.
